My name is Mohamed Hassan, and I'm the Founder at Goals Galore. I was born in Kenya, where I spent five years as a refugee in crowded camps before my mother brought our family of nine to America for a better life. We settled in Lewiston, Maine, where adjusting as refugees was challenging, especially with the language barrier. Despite this, I discovered soccer in kindergarten at Montello Elementary School, and it quickly became my passion. Soccer connected me with my peers, built my confidence, and became a shared love within my family and community.

Throughout school, soccer was more than a sport—it was a universal language that created friendships and fostered unity. After high school, life got busier, but I saw how soccer continued to bring people together, building camaraderie and positivity across generations. I realized that soccer is the thread holding our community together.

Now, it’s my turn to give back. Through Goals Galore, I aim to provide today’s youth with the same opportunities and sense of connection that soccer gave me, helping them grow in a positive and supportive environment.

Our goals at Goals Galore extend beyond the soccer field. We strive to help as many youth as possible, guiding them not only as athletes but also as individuals. By becoming mentors, we aim to shape a great future where young people are empowered, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential.

My name is Abdiweli Abdow and I’m the Co-Founder here at goals galore. I grew up in Dagahaley, a refugee camp that shaped my early years with its simplicity and the protective love of my parents. They shielded me from the harsh realities of life beyond the camp, preparing us for a future filled with hope. At eleven, my family embarked on a new journey to a foreign land, where I faced challenges with language and belonging. Soccer became my refuge—a universal language that helped me make friends, find joy, and build resilience.

Now, as an adult, I reflect on my parents' sacrifices and the opportunities they created for me. Through Goals Galore, I aim to give back to my community by creating a sanctuary where youth can find camaraderie, overcome challenges, and dream big. Soccer is more than a game; it's a connection, a safe haven, and a pathway to brighter futures.

At Goals Galore, we love sports, but our mission goes beyond the field. Through diverse programming, we strive to support youth in other meaningful ways—helping them gain life skills, educational opportunities, and a sense of belonging. Goals Galore represents my commitment to inspire, guide, and uplift the next generation, ensuring they have the tools to thrive and the confidence to carve their own stories of triumph.

Hussein Hassan is the Community Engagement Coordinator at Goals Galore. Born in the Dagahaley refugee camp in Kenya, Hussein’s journey to Lewiston, Maine, was a pivotal moment in his life. As a young refugee, he found solace and purpose in soccer, which became a source of joy and a tool for building lasting relationships within his community. Soccer not only helped him navigate the challenges of growing up but also fostered a sense of unity and shared purpose.

As he matured, Hussein recognized the therapeutic power of soccer and the way it can bring people together, especially in his tight-knit community. His experience has instilled in him a deep desire to give back and create positive spaces for youth. Through Goals Galore, Hussein is committed to offering the same opportunities for growth, connection, and joy that soccer gave him. However, his vision extends beyond just sports—he believes in empowering youth through education, mentorship, and community engagement. Hussein is driven to help shape a future where youth are inspired, supported, and equipped to thrive, both on and off the field.
